Wishing for Spring – making it happen!

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

I live in North Carolina – where it’s known for mild winters.  It has not snowed much here this winter, but it has been cold and rainy for far too long.  I am wishing spring happens soon!

In the meantime I created a little version of springtime for my bathroom.

Here are some inexpensive materials I found at Garden Ridge – only $10 total!

And voila – spring has sprung!

Not only did it cost just a few dollars – it only took me 10 minutes to arrange it!  Enjoy!

Love this Creative Scrapbook!

Friday, February 12th, 2010

I love the idea of scrapbooking, and am so lucky that my friend Tanya of  www.timeforscrapping.blogspot.com  is a super talented scrapbooker.  I can only dream of making something so crafty!  She always told me how she liked to scrapbook and that she had a lot of supplies.  I was so impressed when I saw her craft station and the beautiful scrapbooks she makes!  She was so kind and made me this beautiful Vintage Mini Scrapbook

So much detail and thought was put into making this!  I added a W to the picture frame that she distressed because it was too new looking.

In the middle of the book she made this cute little pocket that folds up and is held together with a magnet.  I am going to add some journaling to this area and talk about the year I started blogging!

I was so impressed with the dragonflies that were scattered throughout the book, like this one on this tag and others that were stamped on.  She knows I love dragonflies and it was such a cute way to personalize it for me!   There were cute little cards that are scattered throughout the book that I was able to journal about my family and add some cute personalized info on each of them, like what age the boys are and what their favorite foods are. It’s going to be such a great memento to have and pass on to them!

Of course I was tickled that Tanya even found paper with Domestic Goddess on it!  I will be proudly displaying this beautiful scrapbook in my house, and be quick to let my friends know just who they can contact for their very own personalized scrapbook!  If you are a scrapbooker and want the details on how she made this – check out this video she did on it http://timeforscrappin.blogspot.com/2010/02/vintage-mini.html

I am truely inspiried by her creativity  – it makes me feel like getting crafty!  Of course that may take me to the kitchen!

Homemade Playdough Fun!

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Making playdough reminds me of being a kid.  I still remember that salty smell and the feeling of the warm dough when it is first made.  Recently we had a few rainy days here and had an old batch of playdough that needed to get tossed.  The boys loved “helping” make the playdough.  I think they almost liked making the playdough better than the playing with the dough part!

The recipe is easy – the kids can do everything themselves up until the part it needs to be put on the stove to cook.

Home made playdough

 Playdough Recipe

1 Cup Flour

1 Cup Water

1/4 Cup Salt

2 Tablespoons Cream of Tarter

1 Tablespoon Oil

Food Coloring (a few drops)

Recipe can be doubled.

Mix all ingredients in a non-stick saucepan then place over medium heat and cook until it starts to come together in a ball.

Homemade Playdough

Be patient – it takes a few minutes on until it starts to form into dough.  Just keep stirring until it forms.   Once it is all combined let cool and let the fun begin!
